When an always-on Mac is worth it
- Tasks that run for a long time: large refactors, writing tests across a codebase, batch fixes, full builds.
- You travel or close your laptop often, or your network is unreliable.
- You need macOS, for example to build iOS or Mac apps, but work from Windows or Linux.
- A team wants one Mac per person so projects, dependencies and permissions stay separate.
If you only ask a few questions or change a few lines now and then, running the agent on your own computer is enough.
How to set it up
Keep each agent in its own tmux session so it survives a disconnected remote desktop or SSH:
tmux new -s feature-a # then run claude or codex inside
# press Ctrl-b, then d to detach; the task keeps running
tmux attach -t feature-a # come back laterGive each task its own git worktree so parallel agents never edit the same files. With Claude Code you can also run claude remote-control (or type /rc in a session) and continue the same session from your phone or browser; the host must stay online, which is exactly what a dedicated Mac mini does. For Codex over SSH, sign in once with codex login --device-auth.
What wodeMac provides
A physical M6 Mac mini (16GB memory, 256GB storage) hosted in California and rented to one customer only, online 24/7, with Claude Code, Codex and the wodeMac Remote Screen app preinstalled. You get admin rights and can open the whole desktop or pull a single window next to your local ones. Delivery is usually within 24 hours and no later than 3 business days.
| Plan | Paid upfront | Term |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $169 | 1 month |
| Quarterly | $481.65 | 3 months |
| Half-yearly | $912.60 | 6 months |
| Yearly | $1,723.80 | 12 months |
The price covers the machine only. Your Claude and OpenAI accounts stay your own and must meet each provider's eligibility rules; hosting the Mac in California does not change those rules.
Limits to keep in mind
An always-on machine does not mean an uninterrupted agent. Usage limits on your subscription, tool updates, network hiccups, a crashed process or a task that goes wrong all stop the run. Use Git branches, keep logs, set stop conditions, and review the diff before merging. For maintenance, wodeMac and the hosting provider keep administrative access; confirm access scope and backups before placing production secrets on the machine.
FAQ
Does Claude Code keep running when I close my laptop?
On your own laptop it usually stops when the machine sleeps. On a dedicated Mac that stays online, the session keeps running, subject to your account limits and the tool itself.
Is the Mac a shared virtual machine?
No. Each physical Mac mini is rented to one customer. wodeMac and the hosting provider keep admin access for maintenance.
How much does it cost per month?
$169 monthly, $481.65 quarterly, $912.60 half-yearly or $1,723.80 yearly (about $143.65 a month), machine only, excluding third-party model usage.
